Our engineers implemented an exclusive order. The artist created horse and rider sculpture of plasticine. This sculpture was scanned by the highest accuracy 3D scanner “Artec” to obtain the 3D model file for visualization, correction, and 3D printing. Engineers made necessary corrections in the geometries, simplified the model for the scaled down version of the sculpture.

The horse model was cut into 30 separate parts, and the rider was divided into 13 parts. This method was used to fit the 3D printer’s workbenches and avoid a lot of support structures generation. Also, for the scaled-down version, the sculpture was printed with all the necessary elements in one model.

Most of the horse and rider elements were printed by FDM (fused deposition modeling) 3D printing technology, while more complex and finer elements: mane, tails and scaled down rider – SLA (stereolithography) 3D printing technology, which has very high quality and transparency. The printed parts were glued together and the gluing lines were ground. The final version of the sculpture was covered with primer and painted, except scaled down rider.

3D scanning, modeling and printing technologies allowed the client to get a complete model for competition within a very short period of 2 weeks. 3D scanning and printing technologies were selected for precision, high quality, durability (compared to plasticine sculpture), shorter production time and lower financial costs.
