3D printing has already managed to become an integral part of the restoration of unique cars. Exclusive, rare or even non-existent trim details have made 3D technology available to almost every car lover.

This time we received an order to restore the broken part of the car bumper trim. The customer needed a quick and cheap solution. For this reason, we performed a 3D scan of the whole part with a high-precision “Artec Space Spider” 3D scanner. Despite the gloss of the part, the scanned part was extremely precise and perfectly matched the original.

The scanned model was mirrored and printed with “Zortrax M200” 3D printer, FDM technology. The ABS plastic chosen for 3D printing is the same as the one from which the rest of the trim is made. ABS plastic is not only very strong, but also perfect for post-processing, gluing and painting. These properties of the plastic allowed the customer to continue restoration especially easily and conveniently.

Such a project to restore a broken part took only a few working days and allowed to restore a damaged trim quickly and cheaply. The part made of this reliable plastic will be durable and resistant to environmental influences. We can print solid parts from ABS plastic up to 1 x 1 x 1 meter in size!
