The automotive industry widely applies 3D technologies to its business. It’s also great that improving 3D printing equipment allows us to produce both small and large-scale parts. Well, and sometimes we print not only the car parts but the whole car as well!

This time we had a chance to take part in V. Žala’s racing car “Mini JCW Rally” RC replica manufacturing project. According to the customer provided model, we 3D printed a master model of the race car that took part in the Dakar Rally. The 3D printed model was used for further production of RC model. Using the 3D printed master model and employing the vacuum forming process, the customer manufactured the mini vehicle’s body and installed the chassis of an RC model.

To ensure the aesthetic surface of the printed car, we used PLA 3D printing material. Large-scale FDM technology-based “Modix” 3D printers allowed us to print this 63,5 cm length master model quickly and accurately, without divisions.

3D printing allowed us to simplify and speed up the production of this unique model and save the customer’s production costs. RC models of the “Mažylis” race car were tested on a specially equipped track, where a racer and a car engineer could compete with each other.
