Worn out and broken part was scanned by advanced “Scan in a Box” 3D scanner. There was done reverse engineering process: STL file, obtained during scanning process, was converted into STP format, simultaneously rebuilded and corrected the geometric shape of the object.
The main advantage of the performed process is the geometric shape of the broken piece and created exact digital file. This will be used to prepare the machining path for the milling process with CNC machines.
Also, the customer was enabled to save time by avoiding lengthy and complicated prod- uct measurement and the 3D modeling process. 3D scanning precisely reproduced the position of the elements of the part and avoided form deviations (the maximum deviation of the scanned object is no more than 0.1 %).
