Sometimes when we have a unique item, we really want to preserve it. The same thing happened to a company that had issued a certain amount of monkey-shaped candles a few years ago. Since the molds were not preserved, the company approached us with a request to restore the monkey by the last remaining original candle available.

For this purpose, we used an extremely fast and accurate “Artec Space Spider” 3D scanner, which captures environmental objects in up to 0.05 mm accuracy. The scanned model was fixed by making the desired corrections, clearing it from unwanted elements that appeared during casting, and etc.

The adjusted 3D model was used for 3D printing. We performed printing with the most advanced “Zortrax M300 Plus” 3D printer, which works on the FDM technology. The monkey height is 28 cm. That’s why the “Zortrax” 3D printer fit perfectly with its large build volume and the exceptional smoothness of the 3D printed wall. This combination made it possible to produce a positive inexpensively and with high quality, which was later used for the production of a silicone mold.

This way restored positive of the candle allowed the customer to restore and preserve the existing candle and extend its production especially quickly and easily. With a computer 3D model, positive printing or shape changes will be possible at any time in the future.
