Production equipment is an expensive and important element at manufacturing sector companies. Often you can face a situation, that parts for equipment are no longer manufactured or are so specific that they cannot even be purchased anywhere. 3D printing is a great way to avoid the need to buy new equipment or spend a lot of money on the production of parts in standard ways.

This time we were contacted by a customer who wanted to change the type of chain in a specific device. This required him to adapt the existing pulley so that the new chain could perform the same function. For this reason, we performed a 3D scan of the existing pulley with a highly accurate „Artec Space Spider“ 3D scanner. Based on the data obtained during the scan and measuring the new chain, we created a new pulley design. The prototype of the new pulley was printed with FDM technology and after making sure that it was ideal for the new chain, we printed it with an SLS technology 3D printer. Products printed with an SLS technology printer are made of nylon, so they are mechanically very strong.

Thanks to innovative 3D printing technology, the customer was able to produce unique parts extremely quickly and cheaply. For this reason, the old machine was refurbished and successfully used for further work.
